Why do I have to log in?

Most of the online databases provided through LAU Libraries are licensed to be used only by current students, faculty and staff. To comply with these license agreements, users that intend to access these databases through a third-party ISP must obtain authorization by submitting their LAU email username and password. This is done through a secure connection to avoid exposing your login data on public networks.

Technically speaking…

The online databases are authenticated based on IP addresses associated with LAU networks. For people accessing these databases from outside LAU networks, LAU has installed an application called EZProxy that acts as an intermediary between users and the databases. Once the off-campus user is authenticated, EZProxy fetches the IP-restricted databases on the user’s behalf.

Feedback is welcome

As with any service, we ask you to provide us with feedback on remote access to the Library. Please send comments to houeida.charara@lau.edu.lb. If you encounter databases that deny access please send us the URL at the point that access was denied.
